Thom Yorke Goes Solo for New Single

Radiohead fans have been buzzing over the last week about a possible Thom Yorke solo track, and today the word became official – he’ll be releasing a single later this month, his first non-Radiohead work since his 2006 album The Eraser. The track, called “FeelingPulledApartbyHorses,” will become available as a 12-inch on September 21 and then as a digital single on October 6. According to Yorke, the song will feature Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and is “a radical rework of an old tune” that’s been around since approximately 2001. The single will also include “The Hollow Earth,” which Yorke describes as “a bass menace” that originated from the sessions for The Eraser.

This announcement continues a recent trend on Radiohead’s part to release material piecemeal without worrying about a proper album. Radiohead put out two songs in August – “Harry Patch (In Memory Of)” and “These Are My Twisted Words” – because, apparently, they just felt like it. (Although in the case of “Harry Patch,” all sales for the single went to charity.) Will there be more Radiohead or Yorke solo material coming soon? We just don’t know.

Slipknot Announce Tour Dates With Deftones

Slipknot will be going on the road for three weeks in October and they’ll be bringing Deftones along for part of the tour. The two bands had previously been confirmed to headline this year’s SmokeOut festival on October 24, which will end up being the last of eight shows they do together across the West Coast of North America. Before those shows, though, Slipknot will be playing two dates in the State of Washington to make up for the late-August shows they had to cancel there when drummer Joey Jordison had to be rushed to the hospital. “We will be back in a couple of months to make this up,” Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor promised a disappointed Seattle crowd on August 22, and with today’s announcement he’s proved to be a man of his word.
